Ask almost any emerging artist or band what they want most and you will nearly always get the same answer: “A record deal”, and most of them mean a deal with a major label. So get this. There are currently around 3 million artists and bands on MySpace, and over 90% of them would give the above answer.There are currently four major record labels, so even if each one were to sign a new act every day (which they don’t) your chances would be less than 1 in 3000.
Here’s the other thing. Whether you get a deal with a major or do everything yourself, you still have to do everything yourself. Gone are the days when someone else will help build your image, your fan base and your success. So you need a plan.
